1937: As the country emerged from the Great Depression, a young man of great vision struck out on his own in the pioneering days of Mechanical Refrigeration. From his modest office on Pearson Avenue in Nashua, and his Chevy Roadster which he personally converted into a pickup truck, J. Lawrence Hall provided his own brand of service which was always of the highest quality. He handled G.E. heating products and all types of refrigeration services.
1945: The growing business with a reputation for superior service required a move to expanded facilities at 11 Main St., a location that was “home” for the next 38 years. The company’s reputation for professional service and talent for engineering excellence was known throughout New England, and created a strong demand from all corners of New Hampshire. This keen foresight into the future of air conditioning put the company into a new relationship with the Carrier Corporation which continues to this day.
1955: J. Lawrence Hall served his community with the same sense of pride and dedication he had for family and business. He tirelessly gave of his time and expertise to RSES for over 45 years, serving as Charter Member-President and associate founder of the Granite State Chapter, and International President of RSES 1963-1964. He was a Registered Professional Engineer and a Life Member of ASHRAE. The company became incorporated when Phil Hall joined the company as a registered professional mechanical engineer after serving an active duty tour in the United States Air Force.
1970’s: The explosive growth of the defense, high technology, and manufacturing industries in the Southern New Hampshire area lead to our growth in designing and installing specialized HVAC and refrigeration systems and applications for the many small and medium sized companies which were populating the area. This work included clean rooms, close-tolerance temperature control facilities, special ventilation systems, and industrial refrigeration systems for controlled-atmosphere storage of apples and vegetables.
1980’s: J. Lawrence Hall Company, outgrowing its Main Street quarters, in 1983 moved to new and greatly expanded facilities at 10 Cotton Road in Nashua. This move allowed the company to exponentially accelerate its growth and capabilities during the boom years of the 1980’s and beyond. The sales, technical, and administrative staff were expanded to accommodate a sales volume which increased more than three-fold.
1990’s: During this time Phil passed the corporate reins to his two sons, Elliot and Charles. This event produced a cultural change of new ideas and enthusiasm, resulting in expansion of the customer base and innovations that sharpened our focus on customer service and their needs. To this end, additions were made to the building and a modern Sheet Metal shop was formed in 1996 that provides full control and accountability of the installation process of a wide variety of HVAC systems.
2000’s: Realizing we were missing out on an important segment of our industry, in 2003 the J Lawrence Hall Company added a Plumbing division, thereby offering all the services of a full mechanical contractor, both as a prime contractor serving the customer directly, or as a subcontractor to our many general contractor affiliates. As we enter the second decade of the 21st Century, our staff of extremely qualified technicians, supported by innovative sales engineers, project and service managers, and administrators looks forward to a bright future of service to our customers and to our community.
